North West Cycling Club’s Martin Bradley made it 2 wins in a row for the club taking a sprint victory in Sunday’s Carn Classic road race in Maghera. Bradley was 4 bike lengths ahead of Richard Donnell (Omagh Wheelers) closely followed by Dean Lockhart of Carn Wheelers. It was a cagey affair with no one able to breakaway from the 72 strong peleton. Unfortunately there was a mechanical for John O’Hagan early in the race and Adrian McCartney was caught up in a nasty crash on lap 2. There were strong performances also from Emmett O’Hara and Micheal Anderson but talk of the town will be Martin winning 7 days after younger brother Nigel and sees him upgraded to A3. Riders from near and far will be travelling to Muldonagh hoping that some of the magic in the air rubs off on them too.
In the A race A3 debutant Nigel Bradley mixed it with the big boys ably accompanied by Alan Campbell and Paul Duffy. The 3 battled hard all afternoon with moves off the front of the bunch but all proved fruitless as it was Curtis Gilmore of Team Madigan leading in a 10 man breakaway ahead of Dunloy’s Jonathan Dooey. The three NWCC men finished well up the chasing peleton.
The North West race squad now head to a training camp in Mallorca before the resumption of the local race calendar in April.
